From blade to burr
My first grinder was a cheap blade grinder. It made noise and dust. Some particles were like flour and some were like gravel. I did not know that this was the problem with my bitter and sour cups at the same time.
In spring I bought a hand burr grinder. It takes about forty seconds for 15 g. It is slower, and I like the slow part of the morning anyway.
The difference in the cup
With the same beans and the same recipe, the drawdown time became stable. Before, it went from 2:30 to 4:00 for no clear reason. Now it stays within ten seconds of the target.
The taste is cleaner. Fruit notes that I read on the bag but never found are now there, at least sometimes.
Is it worth it?
If you buy good beans, yes. A good grinder with average beans beats an average grinder with great beans. I wish someone told me this two years ago.
